love and warmth. Its name originates from the old English word ‘Genet’ meaning ‘dark red’ and Latin ‘Granum’ meaning ‘grain’. A rich red gemstone steeped in history, dating back as far as 3500BC where red garnet necklaces adorned the necks of Egypt’s pharaohs, and were entombed with their mummified bodies for the afterlife. In ancient Rome, signet rings with carved garnet were used to stamp impressions into wax seals securing documents.
